Lauren boebert hates america, not democrats.
The humor of Lauren Boebert literally being from Rifle, Colorado makes me feel like we are living in an American version of a satirical musical akin to Springtime for Hitler. However, this blog post unfortunately won't be about the near-comedic nature of this politician. Instead, I'll be taking an inventory of her history of pandering to the far-right, and why I find it alarming.
Lauren Boebert has Been Courting the Far-Right and Militia Groups for Years.
Many people first became aware of the representative from CO-03 because of her attempt in 2020 to overturn the presidential election results. However, this is only one example of her blatant disdain for American democracy and her alignment with violent groups who aim to undermine it.
In 2019, Boebert was photographed with guns-rights activists in front of a public building. Pretty innocuous for a politician whose platform is almost entirely based on gun rights. Upon further inspection, it appears that multiple men in the photograph put up three fingers, a symbol synonymous with the far-right militia group the "Three Percenters." According to the University of Maryland, "The U.S. far-right milieu is not monolithic. It can be divided into at least five sections: racist extremism, namely white nationalism/supremacy; anti-government extremism; nativist extremism; anti-abortion extremism; and male supremacy." Certainly alarming for a politician to pose with a group like this, no? Particularly one elected to federal office?
Following a storm on the Michigan capitol by a far-right militia group, Boebert tweeted against Michigan governor Whitmer, calling her a "tyrant." Importantly, thirteen men were arrested as a result of this attack, and it was later uncovered that it was an attempted kidnapping on the Governor; these men were found to be associated with (you guessed it!) a far right militia group. A month after this attack, Boebert tweeted, "I am the militia."...it cannot get any more obvious than that.
On January 6 2021, at 8:30 AM, Boebert tweeted, "Today is 1776." My commentary isn't useful here, her intent is so blatant.
It's purported that Boebert's campaign invited the "Three Percenters" to her campaign events directly.
Boebert was featured on a QAnon friendly podcast in May 2020, and was quoted saying, "Everything that I've heard of Q, I hope that this is real...Because it only means that America is getting stronger and better, and people are returning to conservative values." Boebert's crediting Qanon, a notorious conspiratorial belief system, with bringing people closer to conservative values seems insulting to conservative values. Conservatism does not equal far right conspiracy.
My conclusion: you don't align yourself with militia groups interested in overthrowing the American government if you really love America as much as you say you do. Attempting to do away with and undermining something betrays an inherent disrespect for it. Boebert touts that "Democrats Hate America," yet it is her who is consistently aligning herself with people, groups, and ideologies interested in its downfall. Smells fishy!

Wow this is actually quite frightening, but sadly not shocking. This immediately reminded me of one when Trump refused to condemn the Proud Boys, seemingly in fear of angering his supporters, but also, he possibly didn't feel they deserved to be condemned, which is again, frightening. After Trump, we saw a lot of political officials become really comfortable sharing their extremist opinions, and their affiliation with violent extremists' groups like the ones you mentioned. These are the first people that would tell an immigrant to "go back to their country" if they think this one is so bad but would also be on board to encourage people to storm the capitol building to "take back" the election.
ReplyDeleteBoebert has always been baffling to me. In my (admittedly anecdotal) experience, Coloradans are very kind people. When I visited Denver last summer, I was shocked by how nice the drivers were (they actually let you merge onto the highway) and how nice everyone there seemed to be. But Boebert gets votes from Colorado. I don't get it. I totally agree that conservatism is not the same as far-right conspiracy. Overall, your post reads like an opinion piece, which is very good.
